Shrimp Fra Diavolo

Welcome back to Pasta A-Z where I’m making pasta dishes from every letter of the alphabet. Today is F for Fra Diavolo. According to Wikipedia this dish is named after the nickname of 18th century guerrilla leader, “Friar Devil”. I knew it to mean devil aka its spicy. As much as I love spicy, I toned it down for my guests (mom I’m looking at you). I used only shrimp but you could really use whatever seafood you want for this dish.

INGREDIENTS

-Shrimp

-Onion

-Spicy red pepper

-Calabrian chili (if you’re cooking for people who can’t do spice use chopped sun-dried tomatoes)

-Garlic

-Red pepper flakes

-Dry white wine

-Oregano, salt, pepper

-Fresh parsley and basil

-Pasta (I used pappardelle because thats what I had but I would have preferred fettuccine or spaghetti)

DIRECTIONS

-Cook shrimp (or whatever seafood you choose) in oil. Remove shrimp when cooked and in the same pan add onion and spicy red pepper.

-Cook for a few minutes then add Calabrian chilis, garlic, and red pepper flakes.

-After a few more minutes add the crushed tomatoes, a few glugs of wine, oregano, salt and pepper. Add chopped fresh parsley and basil.

-Simmer for around 20 minutes then add the seafood back in. Cook for another 10ish minutes.

-Toss with pasta of choice and enjoy!
