Impress all your friends this holiday season with these homemade hot chocolate bombs. This was a bit of a trial and error recipe and pretty frustrating if you’re not used to working with chocolate, but they came out great! I’m planning on packaging mine up in little holiday boxes and giving them out as little gifts to coworkers and friends rather than the typical Christmas cookies we always do! I highly recommend enjoying these with some Bailey’s or Kahlua.
INGREDIENTS
-Silicone sphere mold (I used one meant for sphere ice cubes but they make baking specific ones. You can also use a cup cake tin, but they will be more difficult to remove and not as pretty)
-Semi sweet chocolate chips, candy melts, or chopped up chocolate bars
-Mini marshmellows
-Hot chocolate mix (I used Swiss miss)
-Holiday sprinkles
DIRECTIONS
-Melt your chocolate over a double boiler
-Use a pastry brush and brush on a layer of chocolate to the mold. Put this in the freezer for around 5 minutes. Remove and repeat the process and put back in the freezer for 7 more minutes.
-When the second layer is hardened, carefully pop the halves out of the mold.
-Fill half of them with as much hot chocolate mix as you can fit and a few mini marshmellows.
-Remove some chocolate from the double boiler and place in a cup to cool slightly then paint the rim of the the filled halves with more chocolate then top with the hollow halves. Paint the outside crease with more chocolate to hold it together. While the chocolate on the crease is still wet, roll it in sprinkels. Put them back in the freezer for around 5 minutes to set.
-Take it out and they’re all ready to go! Just heat some milk, throw the bomb in, and watch it melt! Mix it in and enjoy!
